SolaX: VPP-as-a-service

When SolaX, one of Europe’s leading solar and storage manufacturers, wanted to bring flexibility to its customers, it didn't want a bolt-on service with a separate app and learning curve. It wanted flex to feel like a native part of the SolaX experience.

Through our partnership with SolaX, Axle Energy delivers a complete end-to-end VPP solution behind SolaX's flexibility offer, covering the integration, enrolment journey, optimisation, market access, trading, and settlement. SolaX can continue to focus on what the company does best - building great hardware and a great customer experience - while Axle turns every SolaX system into a virtual power plant.

For a SolaX system owner, joining takes a few taps in the SolaX app they already use. No new app, no new hardware, no change of energy supplier.

Once enrolled, everything runs automatically. The battery keeps following the owner's normal schedule, and Axle only dispatches it during short periods when the grid needs support. The owner earns for every kWh their battery contributes during those events, with a guaranteed minimum reward each month — at least £10 per month in the UK or €10 per month in France, with earnings automatically paid out to the owner’s bank account.

Live in the UK and France, built to travel

The partnership launched in the UK and France, with more European markets to follow.

In the UK, SolaX battery owners join Axle's VPP straight from SolaXCloud and earn from supporting the grid at times of stress — helping keep gas off the system at peak.

In France, the partnership covers both batteries and solar curtailment. As solar capacity grows, the French grid sometimes can't absorb all the output — for instance on sunny, low-demand days. Axle briefly pauses a PV inverter's export at those moments, working with the grid, and pays the owner for taking part. Self-consumption is untouched, and existing EDF OA export revenues are unaffected: a typical residential installation can earn another €100 per year on top of what it already makes.

Since both Axle and SolaX have one shared integration, launching customer offers in more European markets is fast and easy, requiring minimal development, and we will be live together in more markets soon.
