Easee: Unlocking flex without the friction

Easee built its reputation on intuitive charging, with a sleek charger and an app to match. All the complexity sits behind-the-scenes; what the charger owner sees is something beautifully simple. So when Axle set out to build flexibility into that journey, we knew it had to live up to the same standard: intuitive for the owner, delightful to interact with, and simple to roll out.

Through Flex Rewards, Easee and Axle have done exactly that. Flex Rewards is now built into the Easee setup journey, so every charger in Great Britain can join — whether it was installed years ago or yesterday — and start earning for helping balance the grid. The same effortless experience, but now with even more delight. All without the owner changing supplier or switching tariff.

A simple proposition for the driver

The pitch to an Easee owner is straightforward. Charge as usual, and earn for helping balance the grid. Behind the scenes, Axle makes small adjustments to when a session draws power. We shift the load to greener, cheaper periods, while always respecting the driver's charging schedule.

There's no new app to learn and no behaviour to change. Enrolment happens right inside the existing Easee experience, and the cash reward lands automatically every month.

We didn't want flexibility to be something customers had to actively manage. Instead, they simply charge the way they always have, with no impact to their daily driving routine, while Axle helps us optimise behind the scenes to help the grid

Built into setup, so every device qualifies

The most powerful part of the model is where it lives: Flex Rewards is seamlessly enabled upon setup of a new Easee. And because the same path is open to the entire existing customer base, there's no second class of "older" devices left out: a charger fitted two years ago can opt in just as easily as one fitted today.

That removes the friction that usually limits flexibility programmes. The charger keeps running its normal schedule, with Flex Rewards quietly enabled alongside them. Users earn cash rewards which are delivered straight to their bank accounts via Axle's payment rails.

Unlocking the whole base: CoP11 approval

Reaching every device took more than good placement in the app — it needed the right technical foundations. A major unlock came when Axle worked with Easee to achieve CoP11 approval for the Easee One.

By getting the Easee One approved, Axle ensured that every single Easee One could become eligible for flex. This was a meaningful step-change in the number of devices able to join Flex Rewards, and the volume of flexibility that fleet can deliver to the grid.

Why it works for everyone

The Easee Flex Rewards model creates value at every layer of the ecosystem:

  • For owners: an Easee charger becomes a small source of financial value, while helping decarbonise the grid.
  • For Easee: devices that participate in energy programmes are more valuable to their owners, deepening engagement and creating differentiation at the point of sale.
  • For the grid: every enrolled charger is another responsive asset that can ease pressure at peak — keeping more gas off the system.

A model that compounds

What starts as a single enrolled charger becomes, at fleet scale, a meaningful pool of flexibility. Because joining is built into setup, new Easee chargers can flow straight into the programme. The value keeps building: more savings passed to drivers, more engagement for Easee, and more flexibility for a grid that increasingly depends on it.
